A pull without a gym

Doorframe Row

Loop a towel or backpack strap in a closed door. Lean back. Pull your chest toward the frame. That is a row you can do between classes.

Hunter: I use this when I cannot get a dumbbell. It is not a toy pull. Keep the body a plank and it counts.

Cues

  • Anchor high enough that your arms are long at the stretch. Close the door fully.
  • Feet planted. Body in one line. Do not pike.
  • Pull your chest toward the frame. Elbows stay close.
  • Pause a beat. Your shoulder blades slide, they do not shrug.
  • Reach long on the way out. Do not collapse into a sit-up.

Setup

A sturdy door, not a hollow bathroom door that flexes. Towel, sheet, or backpack straps. Test the anchor with a light lean before you row. If the door pops, pick another one.

Dorm pull day

After hangs, 4 sets of 8-12. That is the pull in Dorm Bodyweight. You do not need a cable stack. You need a door that stays shut and a log that says you did the work.

Make it harder without a gym

Walk your feet closer to the door. Slow the lower. If it is still easy, a backpack on your chest is allowed. Log bodyweight until the pack is a real number you repeat.

Then a real row

When you get to the gym, a dumbbell row or a seated cable row takes this pattern. Same elbows. Same quiet torso. Engine should see the name you actually used that day.

Common misses

Standing too upright so it becomes a shrug. Yanking with the neck. Letting the hips sag. Also: a door that is not latched. If it opens, the set is over and someone might get hit.

FAQ

Towel or backpack?

Whichever holds. A backpack with two straps is easier on the hands. A towel works if you wrap it so it does not slice your palms.

Is this the same as a TRX row?

Same idea, cheaper setup. Rings or a TRX are nicer. Log doorframe row until you have those.

Log doorframe rows in the free Vitality Engine. Reps still count when the gym is a hallway.
