Back side on the floor

Superman Hold

Lie on your stomach. Lift your chest and legs a few inches. Squeeze. This is the other side of a sit-up internet. Your back gets a turn.

Hunter: I keep the lift small. I am not trying to fold in half the wrong way. A quiet squeeze beats a huge arch that makes my low back yell.

Cues

  • Face down. Forehead on a towel if you want.
  • Arms reach forward, or by your sides if the shoulders complain.
  • Lift chest, arms, and legs a little. Squeeze glutes and the back of the body.
  • Eyes on the floor. Do not crank the neck to look at the wall.
  • Breathe. Lower with control. That is the set.

Setup

Floor or mat. Start with 20-30 seconds. Three sets on Dorm pull day after hangs. Rest about 45 seconds. Small range. Honest squeeze.

Pull day balance

Rows and hangs pull. This teaches you to own the other side without a machine. 3 holds. Then band pull-aparts if you have a band. Log both.

Small is the standard

If your low back complains, lift less. Arms by your sides. Or switch to a glute bridge and skip this until it feels like a squeeze, not a pinch. This page is not a clinic.

Then a row with load

The gym version of 'back work' is a dumbbell row or a pulldown. The Superman is the dorm cousin. Do not skip logging it because it looks like a kid move.

Common misses

Yanking the head up. Overarching the low back to look dramatic. Holding your breath. Rocking. Also: 60-second records while the squeeze is already gone at 15.

FAQ

Arms forward or back?

Forward is the default. By your sides is easier on the shoulders. Pick one.

Reps instead of a hold?

You can pulse. Log reps then, not duration. Do not mix them week to week.

Log Superman holds in the free Vitality Engine. Seconds still count on the floor.
