Steps that still count

Walking Lunge Bodyweight

Step. Drop the back knee. Stand up through the front heel. Walk it. That is a lunge, not a stumble.

Hunter: I count a step each leg. If I am in a packed gym, I reverse lunge in place. Same idea. Log what I actually walked.

Cues

  • Tall chest. Brace like a light squat.
  • Step far enough that the front shin stays mostly vertical.
  • Back knee travels toward the floor. Do not slam it.
  • Push the front floor away. Bring the back foot through.
  • Keep the hips square. Do not waddle.

Setup

A clear lane. If the gym is a maze, reverse lunges in one spot. Same cues. You do not need dumbbells until the bodyweight version looks quiet for 8-10 each side.

First Gym day 2

After a trap-bar pull and a row, 3 sets of 8-10 each side. Rest about 75 seconds. Then dead bugs. That is the day. Log the lunges as walking or reverse so the history stays clean.

Add load later

Dumbbells at your sides when the torso stays quiet. Farmer-carry rules: tall, no shrug. Engine gets a weight then. Until then, reps are the load.

Common misses

Tiny steps that turn into a knee dive. Leaning the chest onto the front thigh. Pushing off the back toe like a jump. Also: racing for a calorie number. This is a pattern.

FAQ

Forward or reverse?

Walking forward if you have space. Reverse if you do not. Reverse is often easier on the knees. Log the version.
