Plank that runs in place
Mountain Climber
Hold a plank. Drive one knee toward your chest. Switch. Your hips stay a table, not a pogo stick.
Hunter: I count a knee drive each side. If my butt shoots up, I slow down. Fast and ugly is not cardio. It is a broken plank.
Cues
- Hands under shoulders. Body one board.
- Drive a knee toward the chest. Foot stays light.
- Switch. Hips stay level. Do not bounce.
- Neck long. Do not crane at the wall.
- Breathe. Stop when the plank dies.
Setup
Floor or a sturdy bench for an incline if the floor plank is too much. 3 sets of 20-30 total knees, or 10-15 each side. Rest about 30 seconds. Dorm Engine day puts these after burpees.
Keep the plank
If the line breaks, elevate the hands or slow the pace. The climber is a moving plank. When it becomes a scramble, the set is over even if the clock is not.
How I log them
Total reps or each side. Pick one for a month. I use each side so the number matches lunges in my brain. Engine does not care. You should, so next week compares.
Incline version
Hands on a bench. Same cues. Easier on the wrists and the midline. Log mountain climbers and put incline in the notes if you want the history to stay honest.
Common misses
Piking into a downward dog. Letting the hips sag. Slapping the feet so loud the RA knocks. Also: 100 sloppy reps because a timer told you to.
FAQ
Cross-body or straight?
Straight knee toward the chest is the default. Cross-body is a different twist. Pick one.
Time or reps?
Reps on this page. If you want a clock, log duration as a different session note. Do not mix them week to week.
