Flat press you can bail

Dumbbell Bench Press

Flat bench. Bells over your chest. Lower. Press. If you fail, you drop the bells to the sides. That is why a lot of people start here instead of a bar.

Hunter: Feel-18 Rebuild uses this on day A. I like it when a barbell bench feels like a crowd. Same press. Easier to bail. I still plant my feet.

Cues

  • Shoulder blades on the bench. Feet on the floor. They stay.
  • Bells over mid-chest. Wrists stacked, not folded back.
  • Lower to the sides of the chest. Elbows about 45 degrees.
  • Press up. Bells can drift together at the top. Do not crash them.
  • Own the lockout without a hip hop off the bench.

Setup

Flat bench. Kick up if needed. 3 sets of 8-10 for most programs here. If one side is weaker, log the same weight and stop when the weak side breaks. Do not let the strong side do extra circus reps.

Feel-18 day A

Goblet squat, then this, then a chest-supported row, then a carry. That is a full-body day a parent can finish. Log the bells. You do not need a bar to have a real press.

Vs the barbell

The bar is easier to load in even plates. Dumbbells ask each side to work. If you are learning, dumbbells are a kind first press. When you want 5x5 numbers, the barbell page is waiting. Name the tool.

Machine swap

Chest-press machine is fine if the dumbbell rack is a scene. Log the machine. Do not compare a stack pin to a 50-pound bell and call it a PR.

Common misses

Flaring. Bouncing. Letting the bells wander over your face. Cutting the range because the bells were too big. Also: a bench that is a stability ball. Use a bench.

FAQ

Neutral grip?

Palms facing in is allowed if it feels better on the shoulders. Log it the same or note it. Pick one for a month.

How heavy?

Last 2 reps honest, not a dump. If you need a hip hop to lock out, drop a size.
