Side raise with a stack
Cable Lateral Raise
Handle in one hand. Raise out to the side. Pause. Lower. The stack keeps the tension. You still should not swing.
Hunter: I use these when dumbbell laterals feel like a pendulum. One arm. Then the other. If I have to lean away, I drop the pin.
Cues
- Stand beside the stack. Handle in the far hand, or crossover if that is the gym's setup.
- Soft elbow. Raise to about shoulder height. Pinky a little higher than the thumb.
- Pause. Do not dump the neck into the shoulder.
- Lower under control. The bottom is still a set.
- Torso stays quiet. A little lean is a cheat. Reset.
Setup
Pin you can own for 12-15. Three sets after a press. Rest about 45 seconds. Both sides. Behind-the-back cable laterals are a cousin. Log cable lateral raise unless you mean that version.
After the press
Same as dumbbell laterals. Extra side delts. Three sets. You do not need cables plus bells plus a machine raise because the floor had three.
Vs dumbbell laterals
Cables keep tension at the bottom. Bells get a little rest there. Both count. Log the tool. Pick a main for a month.
With face pulls
Laterals are the side. Face pulls are the rear. Both belong on a push or a pull, not neither. Write both.
Common misses
Swinging. Raising above the ear as a shrug. Turning it into a front raise. Also: a pin you copied from a press.
